Person A in your OTP is a soldier going off to war and takes a plane to get to the military base. On the plane, he sits next to Person B. The two get talking and find out they have a lot in common. When the plane lands, Person B tells Person A to write to them (either letters, emails, etc). When Person A comes back from combat, they spend months searching for Person B only to find out (you pick the ending).
